In response to the growing problem of doctor shortage in the region, the city of Belleville introduces an innovative solution: a medical recruitment program. Mike Ding, a talented medical student from Western University, becomes the first beneficiary of this program, receiving financial support from the city throughout his medical education and residency.
Belleville Invests in Residents' Health "This initiative demonstrates our commitment to improving health care access for all Belleville residents," says Mayor Neil Ellis. Through this program, Ding has committed to opening a clinical practice in the city upon obtaining the necessary qualifications, marking a significant step towards strengthening the local health care system.
Recruitment Program - A Model for the Future The program offers substantial financial support, up to $150,000, for medical students interested in practicing in Belleville, in exchange for their five-year commitment to work in the city. "This is one of the most successful initiatives of its kind in the province, funded through dividends from Elexicon Energy. So far, we've committed over $6 million to attract qualified medical specialists," the city explains.
Belleville's Future Under the Banner of Health Thanks to the program, Mike Ding joins a growing list of medical professionals committed to working in Belleville. His enthusiasm and readiness to provide family care within a community spirit align with the city's long-term goals for public health.
With full certification expected in 2028, Ding has a promising future in Belleville. The city continues its efforts to attract more medical specialists while encouraging residents to use Health Care Connect for easier access to health care services. This initiative represents hope for a better future for public health in Belleville."
